Above seventeen hundred feet, eight miles of switchbacks off the Silverado Trail, and a road nobody should be driving after a tasting.
Why Angwin chooses Irydn
Angwin sits above seventeen hundred feet on Howell Mountain, reached by roughly eight miles of switchbacks climbing off the Silverado Trail on Deer Park Road. The elevation is the entire story here. Angwin is above the fog that fills the Napa Valley floor most summer mornings, which is why Howell Mountain fruit ripens on its own schedule in smaller berries and thicker skins, and why CADE Estate Winery, Ladera Vineyards, and O'Shaughnessy Estate amount to a genuinely separate day rather than an add-on to an SR-29 itinerary. It is also an unincorporated community rather than an incorporated city — ZIP 94508, no traffic signals, and Pacific Union College sitting at the middle of it.
Irydn chauffeurs the grade in both directions: mountain tasting days, airport runs for college families, and point-to-point transfers between Angwin and the valley floor, in mid-size and large luxury SUVs, a Luxury Sprinter Van with eleven captain's chairs, a fourteen-seat Sprinter Passenger Van, and a twenty-four-seat Luxury Bus, working from our Napa Valley base in Yountville. We are a licensed California charter-party carrier under CPUC permit TCP 0039081A, commercially insured, with background-checked professional chauffeurs and flight tracking on every airport booking. Dispatch answers around the clock at (415) 237-0073. Airport drives from Angwin run 55 to 70 minutes to STS, 85 to 105 to SMF, 90 to 110 to OAK, and 95 to 115 to SFO — and every single one of them begins with the same eight miles.
Our FleetLuxury SUVs to 24-Passenger Buses
From a Mid-Size Luxury SUV for a solo SFO run to a Luxury Bus carrying 24 for a wedding block or a corporate offsite, Irydn matches every Angwin trip to the right vehicle — each one late-model, commercially insured, and driven by a background-checked professional chauffeur under California PUC permit TCP 0039081A.

Typical drive time from Angwin
Estimates reflect off-peak conditions via the Deer Park Road climb off the Silverado Trail. Bay Area bridge and commute traffic may extend transit time; flight-tracked pickups adjust automatically.
Local pickup coverage
We plan each Angwin ride around the actual pickup address, not just the city name. For airport transportation, dispatch usually builds around the Deer Park Road climb off the Silverado Trail and an off-peak run to San Francisco International (SFO) of about 95–115 minutes. Add gate codes, hotel entrances, winery appointment times, or venue notes when booking so your chauffeur can arrive at the right door the first time.

Why Choose Us
Eight miles of switchbacks off the Silverado Trail, driven by someone who knows them. That is most of what you are booking here.
Angwin clears at dawn while the valley floor sits under the marine layer. Howell Mountain fruit is a different product for that reason.
Term starts, term ends, parent weekends, and graduation. Flat-rate airport transfers with flight tracking on every booking.
55–70 minutes off-peak against 95–115 to SFO. From this elevation that gap is close to an hour each way.
CADE, Ladera, and O'Shaughnessy charge what they charge. Mountain days are hourly with a daily minimum, quoted before you reserve.
California PUC permit TCP 0039081A, commercially insured, background-checked professional chauffeurs. Ask any operator for their TCP number.
Deer Park Road is the only reason Angwin needs a page of its own. It leaves the Silverado Trail at the valley floor and climbs continuously — blind curves stacked one into the next, almost no usable shoulder, oncoming vehicles that cut the centre line, and cyclists who have every right to be there and are moving at walking pace on the steep sections. Twenty to thirty minutes up is normal, and coming down is rarely faster, because descending a grade like this properly means using the gearbox rather than riding the brakes all the way to the bottom. None of that is dramatic if you drive it regularly. It is genuinely difficult if you have never seen it, and it is the reason most Angwin bookings exist. Our chauffeurs know where the two or three genuinely tight sequences are, where there is room to let a faster local pass rather than being tailgated through them, and how much earlier a Luxury Sprinter Van needs to leave than an SUV to arrive at the same time without hurrying anybody. That last point is not a detail: a longer vehicle takes the switchbacks differently, and pretending otherwise is how schedules break.
Fog is what separates Howell Mountain from everything below it. On a typical summer morning the marine layer sits on the valley floor and burns off toward midday, while Angwin has been in clear sunlight since dawn. Vines above that inversion get more sun hours and cooler nights, and the fruit responds with smaller berries, thicker skins, and a structure that valley-floor Cabernet does not produce. That is why Howell Mountain is its own appellation rather than a suburb of the St. Helena one, and why guests who have worked through the floor estates keep coming up here for something that tastes different rather than merely more expensive. CADE Estate Winery, Ladera Vineyards, and O'Shaughnessy Estate are the names most visitors arrive with. The practical advantage of a mountain day is that once you have made the climb, the driving between appointments is short — the appointments are clustered, the road mileage is modest, and the grade is a single event at each end of the day instead of a recurring cost. The practical disadvantage is that you have to make the climb twice.
Pacific Union College is the largest employer in Angwin and the reason a meaningful share of our work here has nothing to do with wine. It is a residential college on a mountain, which produces a very specific transportation problem: students arriving and leaving at the start and end of every term, most of them without a car, from an address that no scheduled transport reaches. We run those airport transfers year-round, flat-rate and quoted upfront, with flight tracking so a delayed connection moves the pickup rather than starting a clock. Parent weekends and graduation compress the same demand into two or three days, and those are worth booking well ahead, because everyone needs the same vehicle at the same hour. For families arriving as a group, one Sprinter Passenger Van up the grade is considerably less stressful than three rental cars in convoy on a road none of the drivers have seen. Worth knowing, and rarely mentioned: the college is a Seventh-day Adventist institution and its campus is alcohol-free, so the town at the centre of one of Napa's most sought-after mountain appellations is itself a quiet, largely dry place.
Angwin–Parrett Field is a small private airstrip in town, and it surprises people to learn there is a runway on the mountain at all. It handles light general-aviation traffic — no scheduled service, no terminal, no rental counter — which means anyone flying in still needs a car waiting, and a car that knows the address rather than one guessing at it from a map pin. Las Posadas State Forest sits nearby and draws hikers, riders, and cross-country runners, particularly on the shoulder-season weekends when the valley floor is uncomfortably hot and the mountain is not. Beyond those, Angwin is residential: a college, a grocery, a scatter of homes on lanes with no streetlights, and vineyards in between. There is no hotel district, no restaurant row, and no rideshare supply worth relying on. That last one matters more than any of the others. A vehicle that appears at a downvalley curb in four minutes will not reliably appear at an estate gate on Howell Mountain at four in the afternoon, and standing on that road hoping otherwise is not a plan.
Rain changes this road more than it changes any other in Napa County. Wet leaves on a switchback in December, a limb down after a storm, or a fog bank sitting at the bottom of the grade while the top is perfectly clear are all normal winter conditions here, and they add real time rather than a few minutes. Darkness does something similar: there is no lighting on the climb, deer are on the verges at dusk, and headlights come around blind curves with no warning. So we will occasionally tell you something you did not want to hear. If your party is large and the weather is poor, we may recommend splitting the group across two Sprinters instead of putting everyone on the Luxury Bus, because a twenty-four-seat vehicle and this grade are a combination worth discussing rather than assuming. If you have a flight and a storm is forecast, we will propose an earlier departure. And if you are considering driving yourselves down after three appointments on the mountain, our honest answer is the reason we are in business: do not.
Every airport run from Angwin starts with the descent, and mapping apps consistently underestimate it. STS is the closest of the four at 55 to 70 minutes off-peak, which is worth checking against your route map before you book flights, because it is a regional airport with a short list of destinations. SMF is 85 to 105 and the sensible choice arriving from the east. OAK runs 90 to 110, and SFO 95 to 115 with the widest choice of long-haul schedules. Those figures assume no commute traffic and a dry road; add weather or a slow vehicle ahead of you on the grade and the spread widens. Transfers are flat-rate and quoted upfront, with tolls, fuel, and standard wait time already inside the number — nothing recalculates because the descent took twelve minutes longer than the app said. Tasting days on the mountain are hourly with a daily minimum instead, because appointments here run long and a fixed price would either shortchange you or pad the quote. Tasting fees are settled directly with each estate and are never marked up through us.
Almost everything people find surprising about Howell Mountain comes down to the vertical distance between the Silverado Trail and the town above it. This is what actually changes over the course of the climb.
| What changes | At the Silverado Trail | Up in Angwin |
|---|---|---|
| Elevation | Napa Valley floor, effectively at valley level | Above 1,700 feet on Howell Mountain |
| Summer morning fog | Marine layer sits on the floor and burns off toward midday | Above the fog line — clear and sunlit while the valley is grey |
| The road | Two lanes, largely straight, easy to hold a speed | Roughly eight miles of switchbacks, blind curves, minimal shoulder |
| Time to cover it | You are already on it | 20–30 minutes up, and rarely quicker coming back down |
| The wine | Valley-floor Cabernet from deep alluvial soils | Howell Mountain AVA — smaller berries, thicker skins, firmer structure |
| Driving between appointments | Estates strung along miles of road | Short hops once you are up; the climb is a one-time cost each way |
| After dark | Lit crossroads and steady traffic | No street lighting, deer on the verges, headlights around blind curves |
| Getting a ride on demand | Thin, but not hopeless | Effectively nonexistent — book ahead or you are walking |

Get a Quote for Napa & Sonoma Wine ToursFlat-rate transfers to all four Northern California airports from every Angwin address, with flight tracking standard.
San Francisco (SFO), Oakland (OAK), Sacramento (SMF), and Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County (STS) — we run all four, and we will tell you honestly which one suits your trip. Flight tracking is standard on every airport booking, so pickup shifts automatically when your arrival does. Curbside or a meet-and-greet at baggage claim, in a mid-size luxury SUV for one to four, a large SUV when there are checked bags, or a Sprinter for a whole arriving group. Flat-rate and quoted upfront: tolls, fuel, and standard wait time already included.
Get a Quote for Airport Transfers — SFO, OAK, SMF & STS from AngwinAngwin black car service built around business travel and corporate accounts.
Late-model luxury SUVs and background-checked professional chauffeurs for client pickups, roadshows, board travel, and conference blocks across Howell Mountain. Corporate accounts get priority dispatch during the windows that genuinely tighten — harvest season, conference weeks, dawn airport departures — plus consolidated monthly invoicing with trip-level detail instead of a pile of receipts. One operator across wine country, the Bay Area, and the capital region. Licensed under California PUC charter-party permit TCP 0039081A.
Get a Quote for Corporate & Executive Black CarGroup movements across Howell Mountain — weddings, offsites, and event shuttles.
The executive Sprinter seats up to eleven, the Sprinter passenger van up to fourteen, and the luxury bus up to twenty-four — most wedding weekends and corporate offsites end up as a mix of all three. We handle the whole shape of it: airport blocks arriving across an afternoon from four different airports, hotel-to-venue shuttle loops, a tasting afternoon in the middle of the agenda, and departure runs at the end. One schedule, one point of contact, one invoice.
Get a Quote for Weddings, Events & Group TransportationBy the hour, with your chauffeur and vehicle waiting between stops.
The right structure any time you have more than two stops: a multi-stop Angwin business day, a tasting itinerary, a wedding-day schedule, or an evening out. The vehicle and chauffeur stay with you rather than being dispatched away and re-booked, so a meeting running twenty minutes long does not turn into a wait for a car. Billed hourly with a daily minimum, quoted upfront — no surge multipliers, in whichever vehicle class fits your party.

A single leg, quoted flat-rate before you book: a hotel run into San Francisco, dinner in Healdsburg, a Golden 1 Center event in Sacramento, or one of the long connector trips other operators decline — Sacramento to Napa through the Carneros gap, San Francisco to the northern Sonoma appellations. Tolls, fuel, and standard wait time are already in the number, and it does not change because traffic did.
Get a Quote for Point-to-Point TransportationWhy Choose Us
From every Angwin address to SFO, OAK, SMF, and STS — and every Howell Mountain destination in between — we deliver chauffeured transport built on a licensed fleet, career chauffeurs, and flat-rate quotes given before you book.
Irydn operates under California PUC permit TCP 0039081A — a credential you can look up on the CPUC carrier register before you book. Commercially insured, with every vehicle and chauffeur covered for passenger transport. Ask any Angwin operator for their TCP number; the ones who can't produce it aren't licensed to carry you.
A mid-size luxury SUV for couples and solo executives, a large luxury SUV when there's real luggage, an executive Sprinter with captain's chairs for tasting days, a Sprinter passenger van for full teams, and a luxury bus for wedding blocks and offsites. One company, one call — no subcontracting the vehicle you actually booked.
Career chauffeurs, not rideshare drivers. Every one is background-checked, licensed, and trained in hospitality and Angwin routes — which winery gates take an extra ten minutes, which hotel entrance the vehicle actually fits. The standard is identical no matter which Irydn vehicle pulls up.
Airport and point-to-point transfers are flat-rate and quoted before you book — tolls, fuel, and standard wait time included. No surge, no meter, no bridge-traffic surcharge. Wine tours are hourly with a daily minimum, because a tasting day isn't a transfer and a fixed price would either shortchange the day or pad the quote.
Every SFO, OAK, SMF, and STS pickup is flight-tracked in real time, so your chauffeur is curbside whether you land early, late, or diverted. Dispatch answers the phone around the clock at (415) 237-0073 — dawn departures, red-eye arrivals, and overnight runs included.
Smoke-free, late-model, commercially insured vehicles backed by corporate account management, consolidated billing, and the discretion executive and group clients expect. One invoice, one point of contact, every ride documented.
Angwin sits above seventeen hundred feet on Howell Mountain, reached by eight miles of switchbacks off the Silverado Trail — the tastings are above the fog line, and the road down is the part nobody should drive after them.
Step-by-step
A six-step walkthrough of the booking flow, from entering your Angwin pickup address to confirming a flat-rate quote with live flight tracking — or building a wine-country itinerary instead.
Start at /reservation/ and enter the full Angwin address — residential, corporate campus, hotel, inn, or winery. Gated-property access codes and specific entrance notes can be added to the booking notes. We pick up regularly near Pacific Union College, Angwin–Parrett Field, Las Posadas State Forest.
Northern California is a multi-airport market, so pick the airport that actually fits your itinerary. From Angwin the usual choice is San Francisco International (SFO), typically about 95–115 minutes off-peak via the Deer Park Road climb off the Silverado Trail. Building a tasting day instead? Enter your first winery and we'll route the rest.
Pick the vehicle that fits the group: a mid-size luxury SUV (up to 4), a large luxury SUV (up to 6), an executive Sprinter van with captain's chairs (up to 11), a Sprinter passenger van (up to 14), or a luxury bus (up to 24). Every vehicle is late-model, commercially insured, and operated by a background-checked professional chauffeur under California PUC permit TCP 0039081A.
Curbside airport pickup is standard and included in your flat-rate Angwin quote. Meet & Greet inside baggage claim with a name placard and luggage assistance is an optional add-on — worth it for long-haul arrivals into SFO or OAK. Wine tours can include cooler storage and glassware on request. For tasting days, CADE Estate Winery, Ladera Vineyards, O'Shaughnessy Estate are all on our regular Angwin rotation — send us the list and we'll sequence it.
Your Angwin rate is quoted upfront — flat-rate and all-inclusive for transfers, hourly with a daily minimum for tours. No surge, no metered fares, no hidden fees. Tolls, fuel, and standard wait time are built in. Corporate accounts are active with Pacific Union College and other Howell Mountain employers.
Complete your Angwin booking online in minutes or call our 24/7 dispatch line. You'll get an instant email confirmation with trip details, and your chauffeur's contact info the day of the trip. Real-time flight tracking is standard on every airport booking — pickup auto-adjusts for early arrivals and delays.
