Most wine-country days go wrong in the same way: three appointments booked in three different appellations with an hour of driving unaccounted for between them. Send us your list before the day and we will tell you honestly whether it works. Dry Creek to Alexander Valley is fifteen minutes; Healdsburg to the south end of the Sonoma Valley is closer to an hour, and doing both in an afternoon means rushing the tasting you were most looking forward to. We know which crossings — the Oakville Grade, Trinity Road, the Silverado Trail run north — are quick and which are scenic but slow. That is the actual value of a local chauffeur over a rideshare: not the ride, the sequencing.

Napa, Sonoma, and Healdsburg all have a different day in them

Napa Valley is the most concentrated: SR-29 and the Silverado Trail run parallel up a valley floor barely a couple of miles wide, so four appointments in a day is comfortable, and Yountville gives you a walkable lunch in the middle of it. Sonoma is looser and more spread out — the Sonoma Valley around the Plaza, the Russian River toward Guerneville, Dry Creek and Alexander Valley up past Healdsburg — and rewards picking one area rather than sampling all of them. Healdsburg is the rare town where three appellations start within ten minutes of the same plaza, which is why full-day tours out of Healdsburg cover more ground than anywhere else in the county. We will tell you which of these fits the day you have in mind.

The right vehicle for the size of the group

Two couples touring together fit comfortably in a mid-size luxury SUV. Six with room for cases go in a large SUV. Beyond that, the executive Sprinter is the one most groups end up in — captain's chairs, a stand-up cabin, and enough space that the drive between wineries is part of the day rather than the gap between the good bits. How wine tours are priced

Tours are hourly with a daily minimum rather than flat-rate, because a tasting day is not a transfer — appointments run long, lunch runs longer, and a fixed price would either shortchange you or pad the quote. The hourly rate covers the vehicle, the chauffeur, fuel, and standard wait time at each stop. Tasting fees are paid directly to the wineries, which is standard across wine country and means you are not paying us a markup on them. Arriving from out of town

Most guests fly into SFO and drive north, but that is not always the right call. STS — Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County — sits in wine country itself and puts you twenty minutes from Healdsburg, which is often worth a connection to avoid the run up US-101. OAK can be faster than SFO depending on traffic and where you are staying. If you are coming from the Sacramento side, SMF is the obvious choice and the Carneros gap gets you into the Napa Valley in about an hour. We run flight-tracked transfers from all four, so a tour can start the moment you land, or the next morning from your hotel.
