Northern California Black Car Service · CPUC TCP 0039081A
Ten miles of two-lane road through second-growth redwoods, and the single most-requested return leg in west county.
Why Occidental chooses Irydn
Occidental is strung along the Bohemian Highway, a county road that runs roughly ten miles north from Freestone to Monte Rio through second-growth redwood, and that road is not the background of this page — it is the subject of it. The village itself is a few blocks in a clearing, ZIP 95465, with the Union Hotel on the main street feeding people family-style Italian dinners since the 1870s, the Occidental Center for the Arts a short walk away, and essentially nothing between the last building and the trees.
What brings the bookings is the combination of the two: a dinner worth driving out for, at the end of a road nobody wants to drive back down in the dark. Guests here routinely book the return leg alone, by name, and that is unusual enough across the whole of our footprint to be worth stating plainly. Occidental is 32 to 45 minutes from Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County, 80 to 100 from SFO and 85 to 105 from OAK, all served from our Petaluma base under California PUC charter-party permit TCP 0039081A. Dispatch is staffed around the clock at (415) 237-0073.

Typical drive time from Occidental
Estimates reflect off-peak conditions via the Bohemian Highway. Bay Area bridge and commute traffic may extend transit time; flight-tracked pickups adjust automatically.
Local pickup coverage
We plan each Occidental ride around the actual pickup address, not just the city name. For airport transportation, dispatch usually builds around the Bohemian Highway and an off-peak run to Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County (STS) of about 32–45 minutes. Add gate codes, hotel entrances, winery appointment times, or venue notes when booking so your chauffeur can arrive at the right door the first time.

Why Choose Us
Guests drive out to Occidental in daylight and hire us for the way back. It is the most-requested single leg in west county.
Two lanes, no shoulder, tight corners and redwood trunks at the pavement edge. It drives far longer than the distance suggests.
Family-style Italian, large tables and a whole evening. Occidental is a dinner destination rather than a tasting stop.
The luxury Sprinter van is the largest vehicle we send up the Bohemian Highway without first checking where it turns around.
Wild Flour Bread and Osmosis sit at the south end of the road — three worthwhile stops inside a very short drive.
A licensed California charter-party carrier, commercially insured, with background-checked chauffeurs and a real person on the phone.
Start at Freestone, where the Bohemian Highway leaves the Bodega Highway, and the road climbs almost immediately into timber. It passes through Occidental about a third of the way along, drops through Camp Meeker, and comes out at Monte Rio on the Russian River, where it meets SR-116 and River Road. Ten miles, give or take, and it takes considerably longer to drive than that number implies. Two lanes with no shoulder for most of it, corners tight enough that the posted advisories are not decorative, redwood trunks standing at the edge of the pavement, and a canopy overhead for long stretches. It is one of the more beautiful drives in California and one of the least forgiving, and the whole of Occidental's transportation logic follows from it. When people describe this road as narrow they usually mean it is a two-lane road with a centre line; here they mean the trees are close enough to touch from a wing mirror.
Most towns generate bookings because of what is in them. Occidental generates bookings because of what is between it and everywhere else. Our west-county enquiries include a steady stream of guests who intend to drive themselves out in daylight and want a chauffeur for the way back only, and they describe the Bohemian Highway by name when they ask. The reason is specific rather than vague: under a redwood canopy at night there is nothing for headlights to bounce off. No reflective signage in any quantity, no lit frontage, no roadside development, no moon getting through. A driver who is confident on unlit country roads elsewhere finds this one genuinely disorienting, and mobile coverage along it is patchy enough that stopping to think is not much of a plan either. Our chauffeurs drive it regularly and know which corners want the inside line and where a vehicle coming the other way needs someone to give way early.
Occidental has no tasting-room district and does not pretend to one. What it has is a long-running family-style Italian tradition — the Union Hotel has been feeding people on the main street since the 1870s, and the shape of the meal has not changed much: large tables, courses arriving whether or not you asked for them, and an evening rather than a sitting. That makes the town a dinner destination, and it makes the transportation problem a group problem more often than a couple problem. Eight to eleven guests take the luxury Sprinter van with captain's chairs, which is the largest vehicle we will send up the Bohemian Highway without looking at where it needs to turn around. Fourteen ride in the Sprinter passenger van and twenty-four in the luxury bus, both of which want a conversation about the route and the parking before we quote them. Those five classes are the entire fleet, and on a road like this that constraint is a feature rather than a limitation.
The Bohemian Highway at Freestone is worth building into the day rather than passing through. Freestone is barely a hamlet, but Wild Flour Bread pulls a queue out of the door on a weekend morning for wood-fired loaves and sticky buns, and Osmosis, the cedar-enzyme bath and spa on the other side of the crossroads, draws bookings from well outside the county. A pattern we run frequently is a morning appointment at Osmosis, a stop for bread, and then north up the Bohemian Highway to Occidental for the afternoon and evening — three stops in about ten miles, which is a rare thing in Sonoma County. Freestone also sits on the Bodega Highway, so it is the natural junction between a west-county day and a run out to the coast. Hourly as-directed service with a daily minimum is the sensible structure for a day shaped like that, since the vehicle stays with you rather than being dispatched away between stops.
Occidental Center for the Arts runs a genuine programme out of a converted school building at the edge of the village — theatre, music, gallery shows and community events — and it produces the sort of evening let-out that a village of this size cannot easily park. That is one of the two reasons we work here on weeknights. The other is weddings: the redwood properties around Occidental and along the Bohemian Highway are among the most sought-after ceremony sites in west Sonoma County, and every one of them presents the same logistics problem — guests staying in Sebastopol, Santa Rosa or down at the coast, a single-track drive off a road that is already narrow, and a departure after dark. Tell us the venue early. We will look at the approach, the gate and the turnaround before we put a vehicle on a quote, and where the site will not take a bus we run staggered Sprinter loops instead.
The village is more connected than its size suggests, and it helps to know the exits. North on the Bohemian Highway brings you out at Monte Rio on the Russian River, which puts Guerneville and the lower river corridor within a short run. South returns you to Freestone and the Bodega Highway, from which Sebastopol is a straightforward drive east and Bodega Bay and the coast lie west by way of Coleman Valley Road or the Bodega Highway itself. On airports: STS at 32 to 45 minutes is the shortest by a wide margin and worth a connection when the route works, while SFO is 80 to 100 and OAK 85 to 105 — real drives, and worth building honestly into a departure morning rather than optimistically. All transfers are flat-rate, quoted upfront with tolls and standard wait time included, and every airport booking is flight-tracked so a delayed arrival moves your pickup without a call.
Almost everything about an Occidental booking is decided by this road. Below is what sits along its roughly ten miles, running north from the Bodega Highway junction at Freestone to the Russian River at Monte Rio, with the driving note that matters at each point.
| Point on the road | What is there | Driving note |
|---|---|---|
| Freestone — the southern end | Wild Flour Bread, Osmosis, the Bodega Highway junction | Open ground and easy access; the last simple parking before the trees |
| The climb north out of Freestone | Second-growth redwood closing in on both sides | Where the shoulder disappears and the corners tighten |
| Occidental village | The Union Hotel, Occidental Center for the Arts, a few blocks of shops | Limited parking; we set a fixed meeting point rather than circling |
| Camp Meeker | A small wooded settlement between Occidental and the river | Narrow and steep in places; no through alternative if it is blocked |
| Monte Rio — the northern end | The Russian River, SR-116 and River Road | Where the Bohemian Highway rejoins the river corridor toward Guerneville |
| Coleman Valley Road, west from the village | The climb toward SR-1 and the Sonoma Coast | Slow, exposed and worth real time in the schedule rather than a detour |

Get a Quote for Weddings, Events & Group TransportationBy the hour, with your chauffeur and vehicle waiting between stops.
The right structure any time you have more than two stops: a multi-stop Occidental business day, a tasting itinerary, a wedding-day schedule, or an evening out. The vehicle and chauffeur stay with you rather than being dispatched away and re-booked, so a meeting running twenty minutes long does not turn into a wait for a car. Billed hourly with a daily minimum, quoted upfront — no surge multipliers, in whichever vehicle class fits your party.

A single leg, quoted flat-rate before you book: a hotel run into San Francisco, dinner in Healdsburg, a Golden 1 Center event in Sacramento, or one of the long connector trips other operators decline — Sacramento to Napa through the Carneros gap, San Francisco to the northern Sonoma appellations. Tolls, fuel, and standard wait time are already in the number, and it does not change because traffic did.

From every Occidental address to SFO, OAK, SMF, and STS — and every West Sonoma County destination in between — we deliver chauffeured transport built on a licensed fleet, career chauffeurs, and flat-rate quotes given before you book.
Irydn operates under California PUC permit TCP 0039081A — a credential you can look up on the CPUC carrier register before you book. Commercially insured, with every vehicle and chauffeur covered for passenger transport. Ask any Occidental operator for their TCP number; the ones who can't produce it aren't licensed to carry you.
A mid-size luxury SUV for couples and solo executives, a large luxury SUV when there's real luggage, an executive Sprinter with captain's chairs for tasting days, a Sprinter passenger van for full teams, and a luxury bus for wedding blocks and offsites. One company, one call — no subcontracting the vehicle you actually booked.
Career chauffeurs, not rideshare drivers. Every one is background-checked, licensed, and trained in hospitality and Occidental routes — which winery gates take an extra ten minutes, which hotel entrance the vehicle actually fits. The standard is identical no matter which Irydn vehicle pulls up.
Airport and point-to-point transfers are flat-rate and quoted before you book — tolls, fuel, and standard wait time included. No surge, no meter, no bridge-traffic surcharge. Wine tours are hourly with a daily minimum, because a tasting day isn't a transfer and a fixed price would either shortchange the day or pad the quote.
Every SFO, OAK, SMF, and STS pickup is flight-tracked in real time, so your chauffeur is curbside whether you land early, late, or diverted. Dispatch answers the phone around the clock at (415) 237-0073 — dawn departures, red-eye arrivals, and overnight runs included.
Smoke-free, late-model, commercially insured vehicles backed by corporate account management, consolidated billing, and the discretion executive and group clients expect. One invoice, one point of contact, every ride documented.
Occidental is strung along the Bohemian Highway in second-growth redwoods, on a road narrow enough and dark enough after sundown that it is the single most-requested return leg in west county.
Step-by-step
A six-step walkthrough of the booking flow, from entering your Occidental pickup address to confirming a flat-rate quote with live flight tracking — or building a wine-country itinerary instead.
Start at /reservation/ and enter the full Occidental address — residential, corporate campus, hotel, inn, or winery. Gated-property access codes and specific entrance notes can be added to the booking notes. We pick up regularly near the Bohemian Highway, the Union Hotel, Occidental Center for the Arts.
Northern California is a multi-airport market, so pick the airport that actually fits your itinerary. From Occidental the usual choice is Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County (STS), typically about 32–45 minutes off-peak via the Bohemian Highway. Building a tasting day instead? Enter your first winery and we'll route the rest.
Pick the vehicle that fits the group: a mid-size luxury SUV (up to 4), a large luxury SUV (up to 6), an executive Sprinter van with captain's chairs (up to 11), a Sprinter passenger van (up to 14), or a luxury bus (up to 24). Every vehicle is late-model, commercially insured, and operated by a background-checked professional chauffeur under California PUC permit TCP 0039081A.
Curbside airport pickup is standard and included in your flat-rate Occidental quote. Meet & Greet inside baggage claim with a name placard and luggage assistance is an optional add-on — worth it for long-haul arrivals into SFO or OAK. Wine tours can include cooler storage and glassware on request.
Your Occidental rate is quoted upfront — flat-rate and all-inclusive for transfers, hourly with a daily minimum for tours. No surge, no metered fares, no hidden fees. Tolls, fuel, and standard wait time are built in.
Complete your Occidental booking online in minutes or call our 24/7 dispatch line. You'll get an instant email confirmation with trip details, and your chauffeur's contact info the day of the trip. Real-time flight tracking is standard on every airport booking — pickup auto-adjusts for early arrivals and delays.
